Overview

This role involves overseeing the review and verification of financial documents submitted in the Guardianship and Trust under Will division of the Court. The primary responsibility is to ensure that all financial accountings are submitted punctually and are meticulously audited to confirm that all expenditures benefit the protected individual and that all funds are accurately accounted for. This includes a thorough comparison of bank statements, invoices, and receipts to prevent any misappropriation of funds. The position also entails preparing cases for court proceedings, assisting in court hearings, and monitoring compliance with established guidelines. Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks are essential for success in this entry-level position within the Court of Chancery, where employees will gain insights into legal processes and case management functions while executing a comprehensive range of case management tasks within the guardianship division. Employees may be considered for advancement to the next level of the career ladder after one year in this role, provided they meet the necessary qualifications and performance standards. The Judicial Case Manager Career Ladder includes levels I, II, and III.

Key Responsibilities

The following are core responsibilities associated with this position: Financial Auditing - Review and approve or deny financial accountings submitted by self-represented litigants or legal representatives. Ensure that all required bank statements and supporting documents are received for the auditing process. Conduct detailed audits to confirm that all funds are accounted for by cross-referencing each line item with supporting documentation, ensuring appropriate use of funds, and verifying that the monthly budget is adhered to. Confirm that the accounting balances by tracking necessary capital gains and losses, ensuring that the summary page aligns with the transactions recorded. Communicate with involved parties regarding missing information and prepare necessary notices. Submit audited accountings and documentation electronically and forward the accounting to the Judicial Officer for review. Address any inquiries from the Judicial Officer, guardians, or interested parties regarding the financial accountings. Court Support - Schedule hearings, distribute hearing notifications, and provide clerical support during hearings related to financial matters, including preparing summaries of the hearings. Case Oversight - Evaluate case filings to determine appropriate placement within case tracks or recommend alternative referrals. Interpret and apply court regulations, laws, and procedural requirements for case events and management. Monitor and coordinate case activities through various legal processes, anticipating potential delays and taking proactive measures to expedite case flow. Develop case management procedures for judicial review and advise judicial officers on case events leading to final resolutions. Collaborate with judicial officers, attorneys, law enforcement, and litigants to coordinate case activities and resolve technical processing issues through research and communication with other agencies and courts. Maintain accurate case data and documentation through automated case management systems. Additional Duties - Perform other related tasks as assigned to support the operational needs of the Court and the office.

Qualifications

Candidates must demonstrate competence in the following areas: A minimum of six months of experience managing cases through the legal process. A minimum of six months of experience applying relevant laws, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures. A minimum of six months of experience utilizing automated information systems for data entry, updates, modifications, deletions, retrievals, and reporting. Proficiency in narrative report writing. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with a courteous and effective approach.
