This role is crucial in managing the appellate and post-conviction litigation processes for criminal cases in both state and federal jurisdictions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a liaison between attorneys and various stakeholders, including judicial staff, clients, and law enforcement, to gather and clarify case information.
  • Maintain comprehensive case files that accurately reflect all stages of legal proceedings from pre-hearing to sentencing.
  • Conduct interviews with involved parties to collect discovery materials and evidence necessary for case preparation.
  • Review and summarize reports, including police and medical documents, to assist Deputy Attorneys General in case analysis.
  • Research legal sources to ensure accurate citation of laws and precedents, providing detailed reports to attorneys.
  • Draft legal documents such as briefs, motions, and appeals, ensuring compliance with procedural standards.
  • Prepare and file legal pleadings, maintaining meticulous records of all submissions.
  • Provide recommendations for improvements in operational policies and procedures based on legal findings.

Qualifications

Applicants must demonstrate competence in the following areas:

  • Possession of an Associate's degree or certificate in Paralegal Studies from an ABA-approved program, or a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or a related field.
  • Experience in preparing and maintaining legal documents and case files.
  • Proficiency in legal research, including statutes and case law.
  • Ability to interpret laws and regulations effectively.
  • Experience in drafting legal documents and conducting interviews to gather pertinent information.
