Position Overview

The Case Manager is responsible for overseeing case management tasks alongside courtroom support activities. This role includes managing the caseload of the Judge, attending court sessions, documenting proceedings, and preparing orders. A deep understanding of court operations and case management processes is essential. Case Managers at this level play a crucial role in facilitating courtroom activities, including scheduling, deadline monitoring, and report analysis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Judge's cases by scheduling and tracking their progress, ensuring timely filing of documents and responses to judicial orders, and coordinating hearing and trial dates. Generate and review electronic reports to assist in case management.
  • Keep the Judge and relevant staff updated on case developments. Review pending cases to confirm that all necessary records and materials are accessible. Provide recommendations to the Judge and chambers personnel.
  • Offer docket support for civil matters and serve as backup for criminal cases.
  • Regularly participate in court sessions and conferences. Assist in jury selection and maintain accurate records of jury attendance. Facilitate the smooth operation of court proceedings, including courtroom setup, ensuring the presence of all required participants, managing exhibits, and preparing evidence presentation systems. Document proceedings and rulings, and draft minute entries.
  • Draft routine judgments, letters, orders, and other documents for the Judge's review.
  • Act as a liaison among the Clerk's Office, legal professionals, the public, and the Judge to ensure efficient case progression. Coordinate with the jury administrator and other agencies regarding scheduling, interpreter requirements, and court reporter needs.
  • Assist in fulfilling the statistical reporting obligations of the Administrative Office.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Candidates for this position should have up to two years of relevant experience. This experience should involve the consistent application of clerical procedures and demonstrate the ability to interpret a range of rules, regulations, directives, or laws, utilizing specialized terminology and automated systems for word processing, data management, and report generation. Such experience is typically found in law firms, legal offices, financial institutions, educational organizations, social services, insurance companies, and real estate offices. Candidates must exhibit initiative and effectively interact with District Judges, colleagues, the public, and legal professionals. Understanding court rules and regulations is crucial. Proficiency in computer skills is mandatory. A collaborative mindset and adaptability to a dynamic work environment are essential to uphold the Court's standards. A professional demeanor and appropriate attire are required.

Education and Experience

Applicants should possess at least one year of specialized experience. A bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study is preferred.
