Position Summary:

The Lead Procurement Specialist is accountable for all purchasing activities essential for maintaining the supply of materials required in the production of foam and interior trim components. This role involves coordinating procurement processes, managing supplier relationships, ensuring timely deliveries, addressing quality issues, and overseeing premium freight operations, all while adhering to best practices and compliance with corporate policies and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate current material pricing and negotiate cost reductions as needed.
  • Track and manage incoming freight expenses against established budgets.
  • Maintain and report on supplier quality metrics, including on-time delivery and project management.
  • Oversee the return process for defective materials with suppliers, including invoice payment authorizations.
  • Request and assess supplier corrective actions.
  • Conduct monthly raw material inventory checks in accordance with corporate policies.
  • Analyze sales data and market trends to forecast consumer purchasing behavior and inventory needs.
  • Collaborate with sales teams to provide pricing and quotes as necessary.
  • Engage with purchasing staff to gather insights on customer requirements and preferences.
  • Participate in daily production meetings to discuss material shortages or supplier challenges.
  • Occasional travel to supplier locations as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in procurement or a related field, along with 5 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing setting; or
  • A combination of education and experience that meets the above criteria.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Proficient in Material Requirement Planning (MRP) systems and capable of generating purchase orders based on material needs.
  • Familiarity with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.
  • Effective communication skills for interacting with managers, colleagues, vendors, and customers.
  • Experience in lean manufacturing and six sigma methodologies is advantageous.
  • Excellent organizational abilities.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
