Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Patient Services Representative to join our team at UPMC Vision Institute in Oakland. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care and support services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Care: Welcome patients upon arrival, promote the use of new technologies, educate patients on their financial obligations, and collect payments when applicable.
  • Scheduling: Schedule subsequent appointments within the continuum of care, connect patients to financial advocacy resources when necessary, and update patient demographics and insurance coverage information.
  • Administrative Duties: Assist with administrative tasks, including scanning medical records, faxing, and guiding patients through self-arrival technology or check-in at the desk.
  • Financial Responsibility: Assist patients in understanding their financial responsibilities, connect them to advocacy resources as needed, and obtain signatures for consent to treatment and financial responsibility.
  • Insurance Verification: Confirm and verify insurance benefits with carriers via online verification systems or telephone inquiries.
  • Registration: Register patients in the Biometrics program, explain benefits, and confirm and/or update patient registration information at checkout.
  • Communication: Appropriately distribute and triage phone calls to other areas and/or clinical providers, and schedule follow-up appointments within the practice at checkout.
Requirements
  • Education: High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • Experience: Two years of experience in a medical, billing, fiscal, or customer service function preferred.
  • Skills: Proficient typing skills, experience with personal computer-based applications, and knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
