Emergency Department Patient Services Representative

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Emergency Department Patient Services Representative to join our team at UPMC Passavant McCandless. As a key member of our patient access team, you will play a vital role in ensuring seamless patient registration and financial processes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Reconcile and maintain the First Net Emergency Department Tracking Board and Hospital ADT system with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Provide exceptional patient care by confirming insurance eligibility, collecting and recording patient payments, and counseling patients regarding insurance coverage and expected financial liability.
  • Work collaboratively with clinical partners to facilitate financial gatekeeping and maintain a close working relationship to ensure timely data integrity of accounts.
  • Obtain or update necessary demographic and insurance-related information, and generate and complete all applicable forms and necessary communications.
  • Anticipate and respond to inquiries from patients, visitors, hospital personnel, and government agencies with professionalism and courtesy.
Requirements:
  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • One year of experience in a healthcare setting or six months in a UPMC Patient Access position is preferred.
  • Medical Terminology, third-party healthcare coverage experience, and a strong understanding of managed care regulations are preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Initiative to work productively with minimal supervision and ability to work well under pressure.
