Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States POWER Full time
Position Overview

POWER is dedicated to empowering women to reclaim their lives from addiction and related emotional health challenges, while enhancing the well-being of future generations. Our agency is focused on delivering high-quality, gender-responsive, trauma-informed treatment and recovery support services to women facing substance use and co-occurring disorders.

We are currently seeking a qualified individual to assume the role of a Recovery Support Specialist. This position involves providing continuous recovery assistance to high-risk women, including those engaged with child welfare or the criminal justice system, as well as pregnant women, those experiencing homelessness, or individuals who are difficult to engage. The Recovery Support Specialist plays a crucial role in helping women establish their own network of natural supports. The essence of this role lies in fostering healthy, growth-oriented relationships, sharing personal success stories in overcoming obstacles, and inspiring clients to take responsible actions.

Compensation for the Recovery Support Specialist position starts at an hourly rate of $18.00.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver ongoing recovery support services to approximately 15 to 25 women who are currently battling addiction or are in the early stages of recovery.
  • Collaborate with clients to create a service plan that is based on specific, measurable, and realistic objectives, and regularly review the progress of this plan.
  • Assist clients in identifying their unique needs and guide them in accessing community resources to fulfill those needs.
  • Encourage clients to recognize and build upon their strengths.
  • Support clients in engaging with and remaining committed to AOD/Co-occurring/Mental Health treatment.
  • Maintain consistent communication with various treatment providers to track the client's progress.
  • Demonstrate to clients how to initiate or continue in a recovery program of their choice, such as 12-Step, faith-based, or alternative methods; assist in selecting a sponsor; and help in forming a supportive group of recovering women.
  • Accompany and transport clients to treatment sessions, health and human service appointments, court appearances, recovery support meetings, and other necessary services based on individual needs.
  • Engage in assigned team meetings and consultations as required.
  • Participate in outreach activities that promote the program or the mission of POWER.
  • Complete all assigned documentation accurately and punctually as per POWER's requirements.
  • Engage in staff development and training sessions as assigned.
Qualifications
  • This role requires the applicant to be a woman with a minimum of three years in recovery from substance use, possessing a robust recovery program and a supportive network.
  • Applicants in recovery who are applying for other roles at POWER, such as Recovery Support Specialist, may be considered with three years of recovery experience.
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Certification as a Recovery Specialist (CRS) is preferred.
  • Understanding and sensitivity towards substance use and the recovery process is essential.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to a trauma-informed care approach.
  • A valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle for client transportation are necessary.
  • Basic computer proficiency is required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Excellent organizational abilities are necessary.
  • A commitment to delivering outstanding customer service is expected.
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to the needs of management while managing multiple responsibilities.
  • Support for the organization's mission with an appreciation for cultural diversity and workplace harmony.
  • Ability to obtain necessary clearances as required.

POWER prioritizes qualified internal candidates before considering external applicants. All compensation is based on relevant experience, education, and skills.

As an employer and service provider, POWER values equal opportunity, human dignity, and cultural diversity. We do not engage in discrimination or harassment based on any protected characteristic.
