Law Enforcement Cadet Trainee

Position Overview: The County of Santa Clara is seeking dedicated individuals to join our team as Law Enforcement Cadet Trainees. This role is essential for those aspiring to become Deputy Sheriffs, engaging in vital law enforcement activities aimed at safeguarding the community.
Qualifications: To be eligible for this position, candidates must have completed a minimum of 38 semester units (57 quarter units) of college coursework at the time of application. Applications lacking the requisite units will not be considered.
Examination Requirements: Candidates are required to submit their California PELLET B written exam results, achieving a T-score of 48 or higher, taken within the last year. It is the applicant's responsibility to provide proof of these results, which must be documented on official agency letterhead.
Legal Authorization: In accordance with California Senate Bill 960, applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States, regardless of citizenship status.
Testing Process: Candidates must successfully complete the National Testing Network (NTN) examination for Law Enforcement to qualify for the agility test. This examination is a prerequisite for advancing in the selection process.
Agility Test: The agility test consists of several timed events, including a solid fence climb, an obstacle course, a drag event, and a 500-yard run. Successful completion of this test is mandatory for appointment as a cadet.
Training Program: Selected candidates will enter a comprehensive 26-week Basic Peace Officer Academy training program. This program equips cadets with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform law enforcement duties effectively.
Compensation and Benefits: The position offers a range of benefits, including medical, dental, and life insurance. Cadets will not receive overtime or holiday pay while in training. Upon successful completion of the Academy, cadets may be sworn in as Deputy Sheriffs and will be considered probationary employees.
Professional Development: The County supports ongoing training and development opportunities for Deputy Sheriffs, including advanced in-service training and tuition reimbursement for further education.
Application Requirements: Candidates must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. and clearly indicate their qualifications in the application. A valid California Driver's License is also required, along with a clean driving record.
Background and Health Standards: All candidates must pass a thorough background investigation and medical examination, including a psychological evaluation. Maintaining physical fitness is crucial for performing the duties of a Deputy Sheriff.
