About the Position

The County of San Luis Obispo Sheriff's Office is pleased to announce the opportunity to be considered for the position of Sheriff's Cadet and Deputy Sheriff. Successful candidates will be paid as a Sheriff's Cadet and sponsored to attend a basic academy course of study necessary to gain approved Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) in order to become a Deputy Sheriff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in a basic academy course of study to gain approved Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST)
  • Work as a Sheriff's Cadet and gain experience in law enforcement
  • Have the opportunity to be promoted to Deputy Sheriff with a starting salary of $44.07 per hour
Requirements
  • Graduation from high school or possession of a general education development test certificate indicating high school graduation level or its equivalent as determined by the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training
  • A valid driver's license is required at the time of application and appointment
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
Benefits
  • Starting salary of $39.48 per hour as a Sheriff's Cadet
  • Opportunity to be promoted to Deputy Sheriff with a starting salary of $44.07 per hour
  • County contribution of up to $1,475 per month toward medical insurance costs
  • Other incentives and benefits as outlined in the job description
