POSITION SUMMARY

The Clinical Research Nursing Specialist plays a pivotal role in supporting clinical departments engaged in research activities. This position is primarily responsible for leading patient interactions and acting as a liaison between clinical personnel and research administration. Key responsibilities include overseeing patient care related to research, ensuring compliance with protocols, collecting and submitting data, identifying and reporting adverse events, managing patient follow-ups, and maintaining accurate records.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Conducts clinical procedures during research visits, including vital signs assessment, blood draws, EKGs, and medication administration, adhering to established protocols and training.

2. Evaluates subject eligibility in accordance with study criteria.

3. Engages in the recruitment and screening of potential study participants.

4. Facilitates the informed consent process in collaboration with the Investigator.

5. Leads the clinical research team in the identification and documentation of adverse events.

6. Assists in the collection and dissemination of accurate clinical data necessary for Case Report Forms (CRF).

7. Integrates clinical expertise with protocol requirements to ensure patient safety and compliance.

8. Ensures adherence to all relevant regulations regarding human subject protection and research compliance.

9. Provides coverage for other clinical research nurses as needed.

10. Coordinates with sponsors during pre-study visits and ensures all required site information is available.

11. Secures patient records and documentation for monitoring and audits.

12. Maintains database access and enters data as required.

13. Adheres to safety protocols and promptly reports any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns.

PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND LEADERSHIP

1. Actively participates in committees and projects aimed at enhancing knowledge in clinical research.

2. Complies with certification and continuing education requirements for oncology nursing professionals.

3. Follows guidelines set by professional organizations related to clinical research.

4. Engages in training related to research ethics and compliance.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Possesses knowledge of institutional and federal guidelines regarding clinical research.

2. Provides input for Medicare Coverage Analysis as necessary.

3. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Graduate of an accredited nursing program with a Bachelor’s or Associate degree and at least one year of relevant clinical experience.

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

2. Must obtain oncology nursing certification if not already certified upon hire.

3. Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Master’s degree in a research-related field.

2. Certification as an Oncology Certified Nurse.

3. Familiarity with clinical research practices and regulations.

4. Experience in a clinical or healthcare setting.

5. Certification as a Clinical Research Coordinator or Clinical Research Professional.
