Position Overview

This role is situated within the Environmental Management Service (EMS) Division of the Veterans Health Administration. The Housekeeping Services Team Leader is tasked with directing and supervising the activities of Housekeeping Aids, ensuring the effective execution of cleaning and maintenance services throughout the facility.

Key Responsibilities

Primary Duties include:
  • Gathering essential information or decisions from management regarding issues that arise during operations.
  • Monitoring ongoing work and completed tasks to confirm adherence to management's guidelines on workflow, procedures, and deadlines.
  • Communicating directives from management to team members and initiating work processes.
  • Assessing the quality and volume of work, providing feedback to staff on performance standards.
  • Demonstrating appropriate work techniques, procedures, and the use of supplies and equipment.
  • Ensuring availability and readiness of necessary supplies, tools, and equipment.
  • Utilizing manual and powered equipment for various cleaning tasks including floor maintenance, window washing, and furniture polishing.
  • Collaborating with colleagues to establish an efficient work pace.
  • Maintaining updated knowledge of Environmental Management Service policies, procedures, and directives.
  • Facilitating proper distribution of work assignments.
  • Coordinating projects with nursing staff and other supervisors to ensure effective and economical completion of tasks.
Work Schedule: Standard hours are Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM.

Requirements

Conditions of Employment
  • Applicants must be U.S. Citizens.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.

  • Pre-employment physical examination is required.
  • Completion of an online onboarding process is necessary.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is mandatory for all health care personnel.
Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all criteria by the closing date of this announcement.

Applicants will be evaluated based on the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications. For this role, the job element method will be used to compare the applicant's skills and experience against the requirements of the position.

Physical Demands: The role requires continuous walking, standing, bending, kneeling, pulling, and pushing. It may involve the use of heavy cleaning equipment weighing over 50 pounds.

Working Environment: Work is primarily conducted indoors with adequate heating, lighting, and ventilation. Some tasks may require outdoor work, exposing employees to varying weather conditions. Personal protective equipment may be necessary in certain situations due to potential exposure to infectious materials.

Education

No educational substitution for experience is permitted at this grade level.

Additional Information

This position is eligible for a Critical Skills Incentive through the Veterans Health Administration. Candidates may qualify for a pro-rated lump sum incentive if onboard prior to the expiration date.
