Property Evidence Technician

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operates under the direct oversight of the Police Shift Supervisor within the Administrative-Property/Evidence sector of the Police department.

Accountable for the reception of property and evidence, including stolen items, narcotics, firearms, and belongings of homicide victims from law enforcement personnel; responsible for the secure storage and release of property and evidence; provides assistance to police officers, deputies, other law enforcement entities, and the public by offering information regarding property and evidence in custody; prepares and maintains comprehensive records concerning items received, released, and disposed of; may be required to testify in court regarding the chain of custody when necessary; performs additional related duties as assigned.


ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

  • May undertake further responsibilities (essential or otherwise) as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be capable of lifting property/evidence weighing between 70 to 80 pounds and maneuvering items up to 150 pounds. Operates equipment such as computer terminals, money counters, adding machines, and photocopiers. Must possess the ability to operate a vehicle.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is conducted in a stockroom-like setting and involves interaction with staff, police personnel, sheriff department members, and the public.


QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or a combination of experience and training that equips one to perform essential job functions; must be willing to undergo a polygraph examination due to the handling of significant amounts of narcotics, cash, jewelry, etc.; must hold a valid Tennessee Driver's License; may be required to type at least 35 WPM with three (3) or fewer errors; ability to operate basic office machinery such as typewriters, computer terminals, money counters, adding machines, and photocopiers.


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be available to work evenings, nights, weekends, and have flexible days off.
