Position Title: Custodian (Union Ave - Evening Shift)
Classification: Service/Maintenance
Department: Custodial Services
Location: Union Avenue Campus
Position Summary
This is a full-time, permanent role under the guidance of the Custodial Supervisor. The custodian is tasked with the upkeep and sanitation of designated areas, performing essential cleaning duties as required. Responsibilities may include work during evenings or weekends across various locations. Performance is assessed through regular inspections of completed tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Uphold the mission and values of the institution;
- Execute all tasks with professionalism to reflect the integrity of the Custodial Services Department;
- Comply with safety protocols to ensure a secure working environment;
- Conduct cleaning and sanitation duties in assigned facilities, including special projects;
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in restrooms and lavatories following established procedures;
- Clean classrooms, offices, furniture, and equipment thoroughly;
- Wash interior walls and glass surfaces, removing any adhesives or marks as necessary;
- Dispose of waste by collecting and transporting trash to designated disposal areas;
- Assist in maintaining safe walkways by clearing snow or ice as needed;
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
• Completion of eighth grade; high school diploma or GED preferred.
• Dependable and willing to work overtime and weekends;
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, standing, and prolonged walking;
• Work environment may include exposure to dust, heat, and noise;
• Availability for emergency contact outside of regular hours;
• Flexibility for after-hours or weekend work may be necessary.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Ability to follow both oral and written instructions.
• Proficient in reading and understanding Safety Data Sheets;
• Strong communication skills to express ideas clearly;
• Ability to foster effective working relationships with colleagues;
• Capability to identify and report maintenance needs;
• Basic mathematical skills for tasks such as measuring and mixing;
• Familiarity with cleaning methods and equipment usage;
• Support event setups as required;
• Competence in using a computer and responding to emails effectively.
