STATEMENT OF DUTIES

Overview of Job Classification:
This role involves delivering professional verbatim reporting and transcription services for court sessions, hearings, and conferences. Individuals in this position have not yet achieved their Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) certification from the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA).

This posting pertains to a vacant court reporter role. We are advertising multiple positions: Court Reporter I, Court Reporter II, Court Reporter III, and Court Reporter IV. The open position will be filled based on the qualifications of applicants across these postings.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

To successfully fulfill this role, the individual must effectively perform the essential functions outlined below.   1. Produces a precise and accurate verbatim record of court proceedings using stenographic techniques and transcription services. Reviews, formats, and proofreads transcripts while providing real-time translation for judges.
  2. Maintains files and records/logs of notes, utilizing these notes to fulfill transcript requests.
  3. Prepares cost estimates for transcript requests, issues bills and invoices for transcript costs, and keeps an accurate log of all transcript requests.
  4. Generates required reports and documentation in accordance with Chief Justice Directive 05-03 and local policies and procedures.
  5. Communicates with court personnel regarding court proceedings and interacts with attorneys and clients requesting transcripts of these proceedings.
  6. Maintains reporting equipment and seeks technical support to resolve any equipment-related issues as necessary.
  7. Performs additional duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position does not entail any responsibility for supervising or directing others.

COLLABORATION:
This role requires regular interaction that involves the exchange and receipt of information, with limited impact on others.

FREEDOM TO ACT & IMPACT OF ACTIONS:
Receives Procedural Direction
The employee typically executes assignments after receiving general guidance regarding methods, procedures, and desired outcomes. There is some discretion in selecting among a few easily identifiable options. Assignments are generally reviewed upon completion, and the impact of actions is moderate.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Full Performance
This role requires comprehensive, practical knowledge of work processes. The incumbent can complete a wide range of tasks, including complex ones, with minimal reference to others. The likely impact on the organization is standard.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY:
This position does not carry any fiscal responsibilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience Equivalency:
An Associate's degree or two years of college education.

OR

Relevant work experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required formal education.

Work-Related Experience:
Less than one year of related experience.

Licenses and Certifications:
None required.

PHYSICAL EFFORT REQUIREMENTS:
Medium Work - Exerting up to 35 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Good - Relatively free from unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards.

WORK LOCATION:
Office or similar indoor environment.

EXPOSURES:
Interactions may involve individuals who are hostile or irate, as well as those with known violent backgrounds.
