POSITION SUMMARY

This role involves advanced case management responsibilities as a Probation Officer, which includes conducting investigations, assessments, supervision, resource coordination, and monitoring of clients mandated by the court for various services. The objective is to facilitate long-term behavioral changes in clients through evidence-based practices aimed at reducing recidivism, ensuring victim reparation, and promoting community safety. This position requires collaboration and communication with various stakeholders involved in the probation process, including courts, attorneys, treatment providers, and community resources. Additionally, this role includes mentoring and training less experienced officers and may involve overseeing the work of volunteers or interns.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

To successfully perform this role, the individual must effectively carry out the following essential functions:

  1. Manage case documentation, review client-related documents, and oversee the client's electronic files.
  2. Conduct face-to-face meetings and interviews, performing ongoing assessments to identify treatment needs and community risks.
  3. Develop tailored case plans to guide supervision and ensure compliance with court-imposed conditions.
  4. Evaluate and respond to critical incidents and potential risks in both field and office settings, employing de-escalation techniques when necessary.
  5. Prepare various reports to analyze criminal behavior and provide pertinent information and sentencing alternatives to the court.
  6. Submit detailed compliance reports to the court, ensuring the protection of confidential information, and provide professional testimony as required.
  7. Participate in external agency meetings to assist in monitoring offenders and engage with community feedback regarding clients.
  8. Educate staff and stakeholders on victim rights and collaborate with other judicial districts on victim-related issues.
  9. Engage in professional development and training, contributing to focus groups or committees aimed at advancing local and state initiatives.
  10. Perform additional duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position entails managing and overseeing the performance of multiple employee groups across various functions within the organization. Responsibilities include making final decisions on hiring and disciplinary actions, evaluating program objectives, and realigning work assignments as necessary.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

Advanced knowledge and skills are required for this role, enabling the incumbent to handle complex tasks and navigate nuanced aspects of the job effectively. Recognition by peers for technical expertise is expected.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience: A Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology, Human Services, or a related field is required. Relevant work experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for formal education.

Work Experience: A minimum of 2 to 5 years of experience in criminal justice, law enforcement, social work, psychology, or a similar field is necessary.

Licenses and Certifications: Successful completion of required training and academies is mandatory.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This role may involve medium physical effort, including the ability to exert up to 35 pounds of force occasionally and manage objects frequently.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work may be performed in environments that are frequently unpleasant or hazardous, with a significant portion conducted outdoors or in high-risk settings.
