Compensation Structure

The hourly pay for this position ranges from:

  • $39.57 for the 533.1 level
  • $49.65 for the 533.2 level

Please note that these figures are general guidelines and may vary based on qualifications and experience.

Position Overview

We are seeking an entry to mid-level Mechanical Technician/Technologist to provide essential technical support across various laboratory initiatives. Responsibilities include:

  • Setting up and operating equipment, troubleshooting, and performing maintenance tasks.
  • Engaging in minor design, mechanical fabrication, and data collection/analysis.
  • Receiving training and certification to handle radioactive and hazardous materials.
  • Potential for overtime and travel as needed to fulfill program objectives.

This role is situated within the Materials Engineering Division (MED) of the Engineering Directorate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver basic technical assistance under close supervision.
  • Participate in on-the-job training for mechanical operations and equipment handling.
  • Utilize foundational knowledge of mechanical systems for operations and maintenance.
  • Conduct basic testing of mechanical equipment and systems.
  • Gather data using standard mechanical testing methods.
  • Adhere to operational and safety protocols.
  • Maintain a clean and safe laboratory environment.
  • Comply with all safety, security, and business practices.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities for 533.2 Level

  • Provide technical support with intermediate knowledge under general supervision.
  • Engage in moderately complex mechanical fabrication and troubleshooting.
  • Assist in mechanical project support through fabrication and modification.

Qualifications

  • U.S. citizenship is required to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.
  • Associate degree in engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical fabrication and repair processes.
  • Familiarity with machine shop equipment and hand/power tools.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs and collaborate effectively in a team setting.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting technical documentation.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and strong communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with hardware fabrication and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with hazardous materials handling.
  • Knowledge of CAD software such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
