Compensation Details

The pay range for this position is as follows:

  • $39.57 per hour for the 533.1 level
  • $49.65 per hour for the 533.2 level

Position Overview

We are seeking an entry to mid-level Mechanical Technician/Technologist to provide essential technical support across various laboratory missions. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Setting up and operating equipment
  • Conducting general troubleshooting and maintenance
  • Engaging in minor design and mechanical fabrication/modification
  • Performing basic data collection and analysis

This role requires training and certification to handle radioactive and hazardous materials, with potential for overtime and travel as necessary.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver fundamental technical support under close supervision.
  • Participate in on-the-job training for mechanical operations and equipment.
  • Utilize basic knowledge of mechanical equipment for operations and maintenance.
  • Conduct basic testing of mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Gather data using standard mechanical testing methods.
  • Adhere to operational and safety protocols.
  • Maintain a safe and organized laboratory environment.
  • Complete assignments in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Additional Responsibilities for 533.2 Level

  • Provide intermediate technical support with minimal supervision.
  • Engage in moderately complex mechanical fabrication and troubleshooting.
  • Support mechanical projects through general fabrication and modification.

Qualifications

  • U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a Department of Energy Q-level security clearance.
  • Associate degree in engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical fabrication and repair processes.
  • Familiarity with machine shop equipment and hand/power tools.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs and work collaboratively in a team.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting technical documentation.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and effective communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with hardware fabrication and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with hazardous materials handling.
  • Proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
