The Chief Strategic Officer is tasked with defining the strategic vision for The Ladders, focusing on enhancing growth, impact, and sustainability within the affordable housing sector.

This role is pivotal in steering the strategic planning efforts, ensuring that organizational objectives align with the overarching mission and vision, while overseeing the implementation and assessment of the strategic initiatives.

Additionally, the Chief Strategic Officer will cultivate and sustain relationships with essential internal and external stakeholders.

As part of the executive leadership team, the Chief Strategic Officer advocates for the organization’s mission, values, and culture.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as a key member of the executive leadership team, providing direction and oversight in executing the organization’s mission and strategic business framework.
  • Spearhead the formulation and enhancement of the strategic plan, ensuring it resonates with the mission, vision, and expectations of stakeholders.
  • Conduct thorough analyses of market dynamics, competitive environments, SWOT assessments, emerging technologies, and regulatory frameworks to guide strategic choices.
  • Identify new opportunities and potential risks within the housing finance sector, proposing proactive strategies to navigate them.
  • Assess financial performance and evaluate the economic feasibility of strategic initiatives.
  • Explore and pinpoint new business prospects, investments, acquisitions, and strategic partnerships to bolster the organization’s growth and long-term objectives.
  • Translate the strategic plan into actionable initiatives, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure effective execution.
  • Forge new strategic alliances with external partners, including community organizations, financial institutions, government entities, and investors to advance organizational goals.
  • Work closely with the Board of Directors to communicate strategic priorities, gather insights, and secure backing for the strategic plan and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to ensure the strategic plan is integrated across all departments.
  • Engage with external stakeholders to advocate for policy reforms and regulatory changes that align with the organization’s objectives.
  • Represent the organization at industry gatherings, including conferences and meetings, to promote its mission, vision, and strategic initiatives.
  • Evaluate risks and opportunities linked to strategic initiatives, developing mitigation strategies to guarantee successful execution.
  • Prepare and deliver reports and presentations to senior leadership and the Board of Directors regarding strategic performance and advancements.
  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to monitor the effectiveness of the strategic plan and initiatives, driving continuous enhancement.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship within the Office of Strategic Planning, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, integrity, and innovation.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • An advanced degree in Business Administration (MBA) or a related field, or equivalent experience is essential.
  • Over 10 years of experience in strategic planning and management, with a background in housing finance or financial services being advantageous.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a senior leadership capacity.
  • Profound knowledge of housing and affordable housing market dynamics, including general real estate principles and economic drivers.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to think strategically and convert vision into actionable plans.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the capacity to influence and inspire a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with housing finance policies, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Ability to work proactively and efficiently in a fast-paced environment with varying deadlines.
  • A commitment to the mission and values of The Ladders, with a passion for community development and social impact.
  • High ethical standards of integrity and quality.
  • Proficient knowledge of advanced strategic planning tools.
  • Strong working knowledge of all aspects of Microsoft Office 365 Suite.
