Key Responsibilities:

Operational Financial Oversight:

  • Supervise operational data to effectively manage business performance.
  • Create and sustain job costing and percent-of-completion accounting methodologies.
  • Collaborate with operational leaders to assess cost efficiency.
  • Assist in financial management related to procurement, fleet, and administrative expenditures.
  • Guide and develop the finance and administrative team, ensuring staff training for optimal performance.

Financial Governance:

  • Establish and oversee robust internal control frameworks for all accounting functions, including Billing, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, General Ledger, Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting, and Revenue Recognition.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal reporting obligations and tax submissions. Coordinate with external auditors for annual assessments.
  • Perform account reconciliations, variance analyses, and routine audits to ensure adherence to policies.

Budgeting and Financial Forecasting:

  • Develop and manage annual budgets and forecasts while monitoring cash flow and liquidity.
  • Track budget discrepancies and propose cost control enhancements.
  • Work alongside department heads to formulate budgets and forecasts.
  • Create financial models to aid in budgeting and strategic planning.

Strategic Financial Planning:

  • Provide financial analysis to support strategic decision-making.
  • Engage in long-term financial planning initiatives.
  • Assess financial performance against established plans and forecasts.
  • Facilitate communication between local and corporate financial management.
  • Implement procedures to protect assets and ensure data accuracy.
  • Support capital budgeting and financial management efforts.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; CPA or CMA designation is advantageous.
  • 7-10 years of progressive experience in accounting and financial management, including 3-5 years in a controller capacity.
  • Experience in the construction sector, particularly in residential landscape construction, is highly valued.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of integrity and reliability.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities.
  • Familiarity with construction accounting software (e.g., Costpoint, Timberline) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of payroll tax regulations in California is beneficial.
  • Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish) is an asset.
