PURPOSE OF POSITION:

This role is designed to support the management of retail store operations to achieve revenue and expense targets. The position serves as a backup to the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager, with key responsibilities including staff management and training, sales, production, merchandising, and signage.

ENVIRONMENT OF POSITION:

This position offers advancement opportunities for Sales Associates with limited or no prior retail experience, especially in supervisory roles. Candidates may not possess a high school diploma or GED; however, those approved for the apprentice role without these qualifications will need to establish a plan to complete certification within six months of promotion.

To qualify, candidates must have a minimum of six months of experience in a sales associate role within a GIOC store, demonstrating satisfactory performance.

After ninety days in this position, performance will be assessed to determine readiness for promotion to a regular Lead position. If not ready, the apprentice period may be extended for an additional ninety days. A re-evaluation will occur at six months to assess performance and qualifications for promotion.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

This position reports directly to the Store Manager and receives guidance from the Assistant Store Manager.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

The role involves directing Sales Associates, Store ADCs, Program Participants, Volunteers, and any other personnel assigned to the store.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in training and leading sales associates, clients, and volunteers in store policies, sorting, processing, selling, pricing, stocking, merchandising, cashiering, and customer service.
  • Provide direction to volunteers in the store.
  • Complete daily paperwork within established deadlines.
  • Perform cashiering functions and related transactions.
  • Respond to customer inquiries via phone and in-person.
  • Offer coaching and counseling to staff and volunteers to resolve work-related issues and administer disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with cash-handling policies and hold sales associates accountable.
  • Maintain established customer service standards and resolve complaints in the absence of management.
  • Ensure adherence to safety procedures and promote a safe working environment.
  • Safeguard company property and report any incidents of theft.
  • Demonstrate cooperation and teamwork, sharing knowledge with colleagues.
  • Work with and train program participants receiving training at Ocgoodwill.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Six months of retail sales experience in a Goodwill of Orange County store, including cashiering, preferred.
  • Ability to stand for 7-8 hours daily.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Flexibility to work varying schedules, including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English with customers and coworkers.
