PURPOSE OF POSITION:

This role is designed to support the management of retail store operations to achieve revenue and expense targets. The position serves as a backup to the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager, with key responsibilities including staff management and training, sales, production, merchandising, and signage.

ENVIRONMENT OF POSITION:

This position provides a pathway for advancement for Sales Associates with limited or no prior retail experience, particularly in supervisory or leadership roles. Candidates may not have a high school diploma or GED; however, if selected for the apprentice role without these qualifications, they must create a plan to complete their certification within six months of promotion.

To qualify, candidates must have served in a sales associate capacity at Ocgoodwill for a minimum of six months (negotiable) with satisfactory performance.

After ninety days in this role, performance will be assessed to determine readiness for promotion to a regular Lead position. If not ready, the apprentice period may be extended for an additional ninety days, with a re-evaluation at six months.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

This position reports directly to the Store Manager and receives guidance from the Assistant Store Manager.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

The role involves directing Sales Associates, Store ADCs, Program Participants, Volunteers, and other assigned individuals.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist the Manager in training and guiding sales associates, clients, and volunteers on store policies, sorting, processing, selling, pricing, stocking, merchandising, cashiering, and customer service.
  • Provide direction to volunteers within the store.
  • Complete daily paperwork as per established deadlines.
  • Perform cashiering functions and manage related transactions.
  • Address telephone and customer inquiries.
  • Offer coaching and counseling to staff and volunteers to resolve work-related issues and administer disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with cash-handling policies and hold sales associates accountable.
  • Maintain established customer service standards and resolve complaints in the absence of management.
  • Adhere to Loomis Safe procedures.
  • Prepare daily reports as necessary.
  • Communicate effectively with management, co-workers, clients, and the public.
  • Model ethical standards and promote a safe working environment.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with agency policies and procedures.
  • Work overtime as required.
  • Perform additional duties as needed.
  • Safeguard company property and report any incidents of theft.
  • Follow all safety rules and regulations.
  • Demonstrate cooperation and teamwork, sharing knowledge with colleagues.
  • Utilize strong interpersonal skills, including courtesy and sensitivity.
  • Work with and train program participants receiving training at Ocgoodwill.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Six months of retail sales experience in an Ocgoodwill store, including cashiering, preferred.
  • Ability to stand for 7-8 hours daily.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Flexibility to work various schedules, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Willingness to work overtime during peak periods.
  • Effective communication skills in English to interact with customers, supervisors, clients, and coworkers.
