ROLE PURPOSE:

This position is designed to support the management of retail store operations to achieve revenue and expense objectives. The role serves as a backup to the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager, with key responsibilities including staff management and training, sales, production, merchandising, and signage.

ENVIRONMENT:

This role provides an opportunity for advancement for Sales Associates with limited or no prior retail experience, particularly in supervisory or leadership capacities. Candidates may not have a high school diploma or GED; however, those approved for the apprentice role without these qualifications must develop a plan to obtain certification within six months of promotion.

SUPERVISION:

Reports directly to the Store Manager and receives guidance from the Assistant Store Manager.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides direction to Sales Associates, Store ADCs, Program Participants, Volunteers, and other assigned personnel.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in training and leading sales associates, clients, and volunteers in store policies, sorting, processing, selling, pricing, stocking, merchandising, cashiering, and customer service.
  • Guide volunteers in their tasks within the store.
  • Complete daily paperwork according to established deadlines.
  • Perform cashiering functions and manage related transactions.
  • Respond to customer inquiries via phone and in-person.
  • Provide coaching and counseling to staff and volunteers to resolve work-related issues, including administering disciplinary actions as necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with cash-handling policies and hold sales associates accountable.
  • Maintain high customer service standards and resolve complaints in the absence of management.
  • Adhere to safety procedures and promote a safe working environment.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Six months of retail sales experience in a Goodwill retail store, including cashiering, preferred.
  • Ability to stand for 7-8 hours daily.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Flexibility to work varying schedules, including evenings and weekends.
  • Effective communication skills in English.
