We are currently seeking candidates for the position of Youth Rehabilitation Officer.

As a Youth Rehabilitation Officer (YRO), you will play a crucial role in ensuring a secure and supportive environment for young individuals who are awaiting court proceedings or serving time as mandated by the court.
Successful YROs demonstrate a commitment to the well-being of the youth, ensuring their developmental needs are addressed. They utilize effective behavior management techniques, provide guidance, and apply conflict resolution strategies to encourage constructive behavior.

BASIC FUNCTION
Supervises, monitors, and provides care for juvenile offenders and other court-involved youth in a secure detention facility.
Job Duties
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
- Acts as a positive role model for detained youth, facilitating group activities and discussions; collaborates with various stakeholders including probation staff, medical personnel, educators, community organizations, and legal representatives.
- Conducts intake procedures, verifies warrants, and manages the admission and release processes for juveniles, ensuring all relevant information is accurately recorded in the facility's systems.
- Explains the rights of youth, facility regulations, and consequences for behavior; conducts searches and manages the distribution of personal items; oversees transportation to court appearances.
- Creates a structured and supportive environment that models positive behaviors for youth, enforcing facility rules and participating in behavioral management programs.
- Supervises youth in all areas of the facility, assisting with personal care, medical needs, and emotional support; administers first aid in emergencies.
- Oversees the cleanliness of the facility by directing the work of detainees.
- Operates monitoring equipment and responds to inquiries from law enforcement and other stakeholders.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Six (6) months of compensated or volunteer experience working with youth; OR completion of coursework in relevant fields such as Child Development, Criminal Justice, or Social Work; OR a combination of training and experience that meets the necessary qualifications.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Associate's Degree in a relevant field is preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be at least 21 years of age and possess a valid Washington State Driver's License.
Must obtain a valid First Aid/CPR certification within six (6) months of employment.
Successful completion of the Juvenile Corrections Officer Academy Training is required within six (6) months of hire.
Applicants must pass a comprehensive background investigation and other assessments as part of the hiring process.

The position is primarily based within a secure detention facility operating 24/7. Employees may be assigned to various shifts, including weekends and holidays, and may be required to work overtime as necessary.
