POSITION GRADE: 73 [ Salary Range: 15hr-20hr based on qualifications and experience]

DEPARTMENT: Juvenile Reporting Center (JRC)

SUPERVISOR: JRC Supervisor

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the guidance of the JRC Program Supervisor, the Senior Juvenile Care Counselor is tasked with delivering exceptional care and oversight for clients enrolled in the JRC program, implementing individualized treatment plans for each youth. This role demands a commitment to the organization's Mission, Vision, Values, Guiding Principles, and Strategic Plan.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Adheres strictly to the Agency's Code of Conduct, alongside all Policies and Procedures. Ensures confidentiality and security of all client and staff-related information. Guides clients through the daily operations of the JRC Program. Provides both individual and group supervision to clients, ensuring accountability for their safety and well-being. Participates in maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the JRC facility. Prepares meals punctually, adhering to established menu plans. Enforces all rules and structure within the JRC Program. Establishes behavioral boundaries for clients within the program. Utilizes approved crisis intervention techniques in accordance with Agency policies. Collaborates with the program supervisor and case manager to facilitate life skills and psycho-educational groups for youth. Transports clients to and from various program activities. Assists recreation staff in developing a weekly activity calendar and supports youth participation. Maintains accurate daily and group logs for each client. Inputs daily progress notes into the NYS CONNECTIONS database. Compiles weekly summaries for each youth and submits them to Probation. Acts as the primary counselor for designated youth as assigned by the supervisor.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Complies with established policies and procedures, offering suggestions for enhancements as necessary. Demonstrates punctuality and reliability in attendance, meetings, training, and other assigned tasks. Takes on other responsibilities as directed by the Supervisor. Promotes and practices cultural competency towards clients, families, and staff, fostering respect and understanding through training and cultural initiatives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma or GED is required; an Associate's degree in a human services field is preferred. A minimum of one year of experience in child care is preferred.

SPECIAL SKILLS:

Availability to work evenings. Must possess a valid NYS driver's license in good standing. Comfortable engaging with high-risk youth in community settings.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The role requires regular physical activities, including standing, walking, sitting, bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, and climbing stairs.

Ability to drive. Ability to walk short distances. Ability to navigate stairs. Ability to evacuate a location quickly if necessary.
