DEPARTMENT: Juvenile Reporting Center (JRC)

SUPERVISOR: JRC Supervisor

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the general supervision of the JRC Program Supervisor, the Juvenile Support Counselor is tasked with delivering exceptional care and oversight for clients enrolled in the JRC program, implementing the individualized treatment plans for each client. This role requires adherence to the Agency's Mission, Vision, Values, Guiding Principles, and Strategic Plan.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure full compliance with the Agency's Code of Conduct and all relevant Policies and Procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of all client and staff-related materials and records.
  • Guide clients through the daily activities of the JRC Program.
  • Provide both individual and group supervision to clients in care, ensuring accountability at all times.
  • Participate in the maintenance and cleanliness of the JRC facility.
  • Prepare meals punctually, adhering to menu plans.
  • Uphold all rules and structure within the JRC Program.
  • Establish behavioral limits for clients within the program.
  • Utilize approved crisis intervention and prevention techniques in accordance with Agency policies.
  • Assist the program supervisor and case manager in conducting life skills and psycho-educational groups for youth.
  • Transport clients to and from program activities.
  • Collaborate with recreation staff to create a weekly activity calendar and support youth participation.
  • Maintain daily logs and records for each client.
  • Document daily progress notes in the NYS CONNECTIONS database.
  • Compile weekly summaries for each youth and submit to Probation.
  • Act as the primary counselor for designated youth as assigned by the supervisor.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Adhere to established policies and procedures, providing suggestions for improvements as necessary.
  • Demonstrate punctuality and attendance in meetings, training sessions, and other assigned duties.
  • Fulfill other responsibilities as assigned by the Supervisor.
  • Exhibit cultural competency towards clients, families, and staff, fostering respect and understanding through training and cultural activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED required; an Associate's degree in a human services field is preferred.
  • One year of experience in child care is preferred.

SPECIAL SKILLS:

  • Availability to work evenings.
  • Possession of a valid NYS driver's license in good standing.
  • Comfortable engaging in community-based work with high-risk youth.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The role involves regular physical activities including standing, walking, sitting, bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, and climbing stairs.

  • Ability to walk short distances.
  • Ability to navigate stairs.
  • Ability to exit a location quickly if necessary.
