Position Overview:

The Cashier/Customer Service Associate plays a crucial role in delivering outstanding service to our clientele at Gillman Home Center.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver exceptional service to customers.
  • Show respect and courtesy to all team members, vendors, and customers.
  • Welcome and assist customers in a friendly and approachable manner. Address inquiries and resolve issues effectively. Recommend solutions and additional products when suitable.
  • Utilize open-ended questions to ensure customers receive the necessary support from department leaders. Follow up as needed.
  • Communicate customer requirements via intercom and two-way radios. Notify the yard team when customers are ready for assistance. Provide accurate loading documentation to customers.
  • Facilitate quick and efficient checkout transactions. Process customer orders, invoices, and returns in accordance with established store protocols.
  • Perform various customer service tasks, including but not limited to: key cutting, propane filling, and assisting with rental processes.
  • Handle essential tasks such as answering phone calls, restocking inventory around the register area, maintaining cleanliness and organization in the front outdoor space, and ensuring promotional materials are current.
  • Assist with inventory management tasks including cycle counts and price adjustments as required.
  • Maintain store cleanliness, including common areas, trash disposal, parking lot and sidewalk upkeep, and snow removal when necessary.
  • Provide accurate and timely information regarding customer order statuses and product inquiries.
  • Relay feedback to management regarding service shortcomings or customer issues.
  • Open and close the store as assigned.
  • Prioritize customer care while managing your designated area.
  • Ensure a safe working environment by maintaining situational awareness and reporting any safety concerns to management.
  • Support other departments as needed.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Role: This position does not entail direct supervision of staff.

Work Environment: The employee will primarily work inside the store, where the noise level is typically low.

Physical Demands:
The ideal candidate should be capable of fulfilling all physical job requirements with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Extended periods of standing and walking throughout the shift.
  • Ability to lift items weighing up to 10 lbs occasionally.
Position Type and Work Schedule:
This is a part-time role requiring availability for days, evenings, and weekends, totaling 15-20 hours per week.

Education and Experience Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 1-2 years of experience in customer service is preferred.
  • 1-2 years of retail experience is preferred.
