This job posting is for several permanent full-time positions classified as Group Life Coordinator 2 (GLC2) within the Oregon Youth Challenge Program. While this position is classified as GLC2, we encourage individuals who meet the qualifications for Group Life Coordinator 1 to apply (Salary Range $ $ monthly). The position may be filled at a lower classification until the selected candidate meets the necessary qualifications for GLC2, with the underfill period not exceeding one (1) year from the date of hire.

These roles are represented by the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) union.

Key Responsibilities:
We are seeking individuals with exceptional leadership qualities, integrity, moral character, and professionalism. The primary function of this position is to provide daily supervision, leadership, guidance, and direction to Cadets enrolled in the Oregon Youth Challenge Program. Group Life Coordinators (Cadre) are tasked with ensuring cadet adherence to policies and procedures across various areas, including physical training, academics, health and hygiene, military standards, community service, and daily living.

Essential Duties Include:

  • Ensuring the care, control, safety, and security of youth in a 24/7 facility.
  • Supervising youth with a focus on safety, personal development, teamwork, and the program's core components. Foster positive youth development by establishing healthy professional relationships, modeling desired behaviors, maintaining a professional appearance, and ensuring a safe training environment.
  • Monitoring and documenting cadet behavior during daily activities, community projects, academic instruction, meals, and extracurricular activities.
  • Working effectively with youth facing social, economic, emotional, or behavioral challenges. Assisting youth in setting short and long-term goals, overcoming obstacles, resolving conflicts, and developing essential life skills.
  • Planning, leading, and participating in daily physical fitness activities, including running and cadence calling.
  • Providing classroom instruction on various topics related to program standards and character development.

Working Conditions: Must be able to work under the following conditions with or without reasonable accommodations:

  • This position requires shift work. Employees must be prepared to work beyond established hours when necessary to fulfill program activities and requirements, including responding to emergencies involving cadet health, safety, or security.
  • Must be available to work various shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, and may require occasional overnight travel. Interaction with distressed students, parents, and the public may occur. Transporting students in state-owned vehicles is required.
  • Extensive walking, regular marching, and running with youth are necessary. This position requires standing for extended periods.
  • Occasional lifting and physical exertion are necessary to complete assigned tasks and responsibilities.
  • May encounter adverse weather and environmental conditions.

Qualifications Required:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must possess a high school diploma, GED certificate, or equivalent educational qualification.
  • One year of experience in observing, evaluating, or understanding human performance, relations, and interactions.
  • Alternatively, a Certificate or Associate degree from an accredited institution in behavioral science, education, criminal justice, or a related field.
  • Or, one year of prior military, law enforcement, or corrections experience.
