About This Role

We're seeking a highly skilled and experienced Research Scientist to join our Crop Trait Discovery team at Pairwise. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading cross-functional projects to develop novel crop traits using cutting-edge gene editing technologies.

This is an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of agricultural innovation, leveraging your expertise in molecular genetics and project leadership to drive business growth and deliver high-value projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Leadership: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to nominate and design gene targets, evaluate feasibility, and drive communication and documentation across the project team.
  • Crop Trait Development: Work with the Associate Director of Row Crop Trait Discovery to define project concepts, execute research direction, and expand upon scientific paths to enhance current scientific paths.
  • Scientific Expertise: Demonstrate expertise in applying scientific knowledge in an industrial setting, including experiment design, results interpretation, and sound conclusions.
  • Communication: Relay complex technical results and their association to scientific or product strategy in a concise, coherent manner.
  • Team Collaboration: Work semi-independently, proactively seeking feedback and updates to align on mid-term goals.
Requirements
  • A PhD in plant developmental genetics, molecular genetics, plant biology, molecular biology, plant physiology, or a related field.
  • Deep knowledge of plant development, molecular genetics, or other areas of trait biology.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously and collaborate effectively in a cross-functional environment.
  • Ability to analyze complex data and communicate results effectively to guide scientific strategy.
  • Experience in leading projects/teams through influential leadership and mentoring junior scientists.
  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills.
