Position Overview

RTI International is looking for candidates for the Research Assistant Internship within the Discovery Sciences (DS) division.

The Center for Drug Discovery Lab is dedicated to exploring and developing therapies for neuropsychiatric conditions, including substance use disorders and post-traumatic stress disorder. Our approach involves utilizing innovative tools to assess neural activity in rodents during behavioral assessments.

The intern will contribute to a project investigating the role of neuronal mitochondria in substance use disorders. The laboratory will employ a range of pharmacological methods alongside viral and genetic techniques to manipulate and observe neural activity in active mice.

Learning Objectives:

  • Design experiments in behavioral pharmacology
  • Enhance experimental techniques for optogenetic studies
  • Formulate strategies for literature interpretation and broader experimental implications

Responsibilities

Additional Information

This internship offers academic credit with a stipend and requires a minimum commitment of 10 hours per week. Working hours are flexible during standard business hours, Monday through Friday.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled (advanced) undergraduate or graduate student in fields such as Neuroscience, Psychology, Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Pharmacology, or Chemistry.
  • Eligible to receive academic credit or fulfill a program requirement (documentation required).
  • Demonstrated understanding of quantitative research methodologies.
  • Exemplary leadership and time management skills, along with strong oral and written communication abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
