Role Overview:
The VP of Portfolio Management for Hotel Franchise Finance plays a pivotal role in the financial assessment and structuring of intricate loan agreements for hotel properties throughout the United States. Reporting directly to the Underwriting Team Lead, this position is integral in ensuring that credit risks are effectively monitored and managed. The incumbent will collaborate closely with the Underwriting Team Lead and the Managing Director of Sales to achieve the objectives of both the Bank and the Business Line through diligent underwriting, loan closure, and portfolio management.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Engage with the Underwriting Team Lead and Managing Director of Sales to evaluate loan proposals, providing insights on credit metrics and loan structures; interact with high-level clients, including hotel proprietors and financial executives, to determine optimal credit solutions that align with both Bank standards and client requirements.
  • Compile, assess, and succinctly present complex underwriting data to facilitate clear financing requests for senior management and credit approvers.
  • Identify critical property characteristics and challenges, including brand evaluations, occupancy rates, competitive landscape, and demand factors.
  • Review financial projections from appraisers and borrowers, incorporating variance analysis while defending independent assumptions; ensure accuracy and reasonableness in appraisals and due diligence reports.
  • Negotiate loan agreements in accordance with approved terms, addressing financial covenants, collateral controls, and default remedies.
  • Exhibit strong organizational and collaborative skills to ensure the seamless administration and closure of approved loans, adhering to Bank lending policies and credit agreements.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service by maintaining proactive communication with clients, stakeholders, and team members.
  • Oversee various underwriting and portfolio management tasks related to new loan applications and the existing portfolio.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in hotel or commercial real estate underwriting within a financial institution.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of credit and underwriting practices in Commercial Real Estate lending.
  • Advanced skills in financial statement and tax return analysis, supported by relevant educational background.
  • Strong portfolio management capabilities, with a focus on timely identification of credit issues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present information effectively.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment.
  • Proficient in managing multiple credit requests simultaneously.
  • Self-motivated with a positive and entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
