Position Overview:


The Patient Flow Coordinator plays a crucial role in the seamless daily management and oversight of patient flow, ensuring timely and precise dispatch and administration of patient placement requests while efficiently assigning Environmental Services personnel.

This position embodies the mission, vision, and values of Rush, adhering to all policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Address and resolve issues related to patients, visitors, staff, or employee complaints concerning departmental matters.
  • Contribute to the identification and resolution of ongoing challenges or trends.
  • Prioritize and escalate changes in bed status in collaboration with Patient Placement.
  • Facilitate communication between internal customers and the Environmental Services team, utilizing the 2-Fixx portal as necessary. Supervise EVS staff to ensure efficient discharge cleaning assignments.
  • Manage room holds and appropriate reason codes effectively.
  • Identify and escalate issues to the EVS manager, particularly when there is no EVS technician available in the sector or when response/cleaning times exceed established protocols.
  • Ensure staff availability for shifts, breaks, and lunches.
  • Exhibit excellent telephone etiquette and active listening skills, demonstrating interpersonal savvy.
  • Effectively de-escalate high-tension situations.
  • Continuously monitor and enhance departmental performance through timely dispatching of patient placement requests and tracking personnel activity.
  • Utilize effective dispatching logic to prioritize tasks and assign duties to the appropriate personnel based on availability and proximity, maximizing productivity.
  • Identify issues, conduct research, and provide resolutions or recommendations to direct reports.
  • Monitor response times and staff productivity consistently.
  • Generate reports upon request and act as a liaison between Environmental Services and other departments. Document all operational actions in the "Daily Shift Report."

Qualifications:

Required:
  • High school diploma.
  • Strong customer service skills, preferably in a healthcare environment.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Professional demeanor at all times.
  • Problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in personal computer use and basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both clinical and non-clinical personnel.
  • Capability to create reports and communication documents related to role performance monitoring. Ability to work independently while seeking direction as needed and prioritizing workload.
  • Experience with Environmental Services and bed monitoring systems.
  • Flexibility to adjust schedules and work weekends as necessary.

Preferred:
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree.
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology.
  • Experience with Epic systems.
