Position Overview:


The Patient Flow Coordinator plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth daily operation and oversight of patient movement by efficiently managing Patient Placement requests and coordinating the assignments of Environmental Services personnel.

This role embodies the mission, vision, and values of Rush, adhering to established policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Address and resolve issues related to patients, visitors, staff, or employee concerns within the department.
  • Engage in problem-solving initiatives and contribute to the resolution of ongoing challenges.
  • Prioritize and escalate changes in bed status in collaboration with Patient Placement.
  • Facilitate communication between internal customers and the Environmental Services team, utilizing the 2-Fixx portal as necessary.
  • Oversee the assignments of EVS staff to ensure timely discharge cleaning tasks.
  • Manage room holds and appropriate reason codes effectively.
  • Identify and escalate issues to the EVS manager when there are delays in response or cleaning times.
  • Ensure staff availability during shifts, including breaks and lunches.
  • Exhibit excellent communication skills and maintain professionalism in all interactions.
  • Effectively de-escalate high-pressure situations.
  • Continuously assess and enhance departmental performance through prompt dispatching of Patient Placement requests and monitoring personnel activity.
  • Utilize strategic dispatching methods to prioritize tasks and assign them to the appropriate personnel based on availability and location.
  • Conduct research to identify problems and provide recommendations to supervisors.
  • Monitor response times and staff productivity consistently.
  • Document all operational actions in the "Daily Shift Report" and print reports as requested.

Qualifications:

Required:
  • High school diploma.
  • Experience in customer service, preferably within a healthcare environment.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Professional demeanor at all times.
  • Effective problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in personal computer use and basic Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both clinical and non-clinical personnel.
  • Capability to create reports and communication documents related to role performance.
  • Experience with Environmental Services and bed monitoring systems.
  • Flexibility to adjust work schedules and availability for weekends if necessary.

Preferred:
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree.
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology.
  • Familiarity with Epic systems.
