Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Elevator Mechanic Apprentice to join our team at the Houston Journal of Health Law & Policy. As an Elevator Mechanic Apprentice, you will assist in the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of elevators, dumb waiters, and lifts in our university-owned buildings.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Under the supervision of experienced elevator mechanics, assist in maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting problems with elevators, dumb waiters, and lifts in university-owned buildings.
  2. Assist in preventative maintenance and inspection of elevators, escalators, lifts, and related components to ensure optimal performance and safety.
  3. Respond promptly to call-back/trouble calls and restore equipment to a safe operating condition, minimizing downtime and ensuring continuity of operations.
  4. Apply skills and knowledge learned in the apprenticeship program to develop diagnostic troubleshooting abilities, operate tools and equipment common to the elevator trade, and perform tasks with minimal supervision.
  5. Maintain machine rooms, elevator pits, and elevator car tops in a neat and clean condition, including periodic painting to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.
  6. Assist with repairing and maintaining elevators, lifts, and escalators, ensuring that all equipment is in good working condition and meets safety standards.
  7. Assist in maintaining equipment inventory as needed, ensuring that all necessary parts and supplies are readily available.
  8. May be assigned to special task forces during periods of emergency, such as floods, storms, or hurricanes, to support the continuity of operations.
  9. Perform other job-related duties as assigned by management.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of six (6) months of directly job-related experience.
  • A basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and simple mathematical functions, such as percentages and ratios, as might normally be acquired through attainment of a high school diploma or GED.
Working Conditions

This role requires working in a fast-paced environment with frequent exposure to heights, confined spaces, and heavy equipment. You must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and work in a team environment with minimal supervision.
