Position Overview
The Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Office Manager/Judicial Assistant to support our judicial operations. This role is pivotal in ensuring the smooth functioning of our office and assisting in various administrative tasks.
Qualifications
- Proficient understanding of the federal courts' Case Management/Electronic Case Files (CM/ECF) or PACER electronic docketing systems.
- Knowledge of court procedures and processes.
- Experience in progressively responsible secretarial or administrative roles, particularly in legal, insurance, or real estate environments.
Educational Background
A degree in a legal or paralegal program may substitute for up to two years of specialized experience, with one full academic year (30 semester or 45 quarter hours) equating to one year of experience. Partial years of study will be credited on a pro-rata basis.

Employment Conditions
Applicants must be U.S. citizens or meet legal requirements for employment. Positions within the U.S. Courts are excepted service appointments, which means they can be terminated at will by the court. Employees must adhere to the judicial code of ethics and conduct, available for review upon request. All applicant information is subject to verification, and appointments are provisional pending a suitability determination based on an FBI background check. Payroll deposits must be made via electronic funds transfer (EFT).
The Court reserves the right to modify job conditions, withdraw job announcements, or fill positions prior to the closing date without notice.
The Fourth Circuit encompasses the states of Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia, and is part of the federal judicial branch.
