Position Overview

JOB TITLE: Youth Engagement Specialist

PROGRAM: Youth Services

STATUS: Full Time, (35 hours per week)

FLSA DESIGNATION: Non Exempt

REPORTS TO: Coordinator of Youth Services

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or Equivalent Experience required

EXPERIENCE: Prior experience with Runaway, Homeless, and 'at Risk Youth' is preferred

COMPENSATION: $18.71-$19.48 per hour

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent experience

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Welcome, engage, and serve as a positive role model for youth visiting the center
  • Assist in managing the center's phone and in-person inquiries as needed
  • Support the planning and execution of center events
  • Evaluate the immediate needs of youth and connect them with agency and community resources, including eligibility assessments for diversion programs
  • Provide support to staff with responsibilities such as crisis planning, stabilization, transportation, housing goals, educational and vocational objectives, and life skills development
  • Collaborate with team members, referral sources, and community providers to ensure comprehensive support for youth
  • Contribute to data collection efforts related to program outcomes
  • Assess the need for visual, communication, and mobility supports to enhance youth goal achievement
  • Assist in developing academic and vocational plans with integrated data collection and review processes
  • Deliver services that promote self-sufficiency and meaningful employment opportunities
  • Provide education and support regarding safe and affordable housing options
  • Engage with community partners to reduce barriers and enhance youth participation
  • Adhere to youth engagement approaches, including trauma-informed care and strengths-based practices
  • Participate in regular supervision meetings with the supervisor
  • Attend required agency and professional development training sessions

PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Primarily based at the youth engagement center
  • Ability to work in crisis intervention settings
  • Job involves a modern office environment
  • Physical ability to sit, stand, and walk throughout the day
  • Ability to lift or carry up to 20 pounds as needed
  • Engagement with youth and families involves various physical activities, including bending, lifting, and movement

AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid NYS Driver's License
  • Use of personal vehicle during work hours

AGENCY EXPECTATIONS:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the program, mission, and services
  • Participate in agency training and meetings
  • Advocate for cultural diversity and sensitivity
  • Report any suspected child abuse or neglect
  • Proficient in the use of computers and communication technology
