Role Overview

Summary: This role involves independently applying expertise in electrical and instrumentation to create construction-ready design packages and support the execution of capital projects. The selected candidate will make informed decisions on engineering challenges and represent the organization in project discussions to address critical issues with key engineering personnel.

Responsibilities:

Design instrumentation and process control systems for large-scale industrial facilities. Conduct studies, design specifications, and provide services related to electrical and instrumentation equipment such as control valves, flow meters, and various types of instrumentation. Ensure compliance with piping standards and select appropriate materials for construction. Assist in reviewing instrumentation and electrical aspects of all project packages to ensure adherence to quality standards. Evaluate project design estimates and scopes for new and proposed initiatives. Provide consultation on design, specification, and selection of instrumentation and control systems, including basic process control and safety systems. Offer technical guidance to junior designers and engineers.

Requirements:

A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in electrical and instrumentation design within the heavy industrial sector. A Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred. Proficiency in P&I diagrams, loop sheets, and control schematics. Familiarity with NEC and IBC Codes. Experience in utilizing vendor specifications and manuals to implement control solutions in an industrial context. Proficient in CAD systems, preferably Microstation. Experience in mentoring team members and collaborating with designers. Ability to communicate effectively with construction and plant personnel regarding project packages. Experience in developing scopes of work, task analyses, material lists, and project timelines. Preferred experience in 480-volt power distribution systems, lighting, and schematic wiring diagrams. Preferred experience in voltage drop calculations and conduit fill calculations.

Physical Requirements:

Work is conducted in a chemical plant environment, requiring exposure to varying temperature conditions. Personal protective equipment such as fire-retardant clothing, hearing protection, hard hats, and steel-toed boots is mandatory. Ability to perform necessary fieldwork in process areas around the plant site.
