KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversee the definition of project scope, contractual agreements, and execution of technology evaluations.
  • Contribute to the enhancement and utilization of scientific knowledge within TotalEnergies.
  • Facilitate effective technology knowledge transfer to our CCUS R&D Program, OneTech process Technical Line, CO2 Customer Line, and CCS Business Unit.
  • Anticipate resource and budget requirements to meet project goals.
  • Position TotalEnergies as a trustworthy leader in the eyes of partners and stakeholders.
  • Actively engage with both internal and external stakeholders involved in projects.
  • Uphold a high standard of scientific expertise, motivation, and ambition, representing TotalEnergies's commitment to a Net Zero Carbon energy future.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:
  • PhD in chemical engineering, ideally with a focus on adsorption-based separation technologies.
  • 7 to 10 years of experience in CO2 capture technologies and processes, including development and techno-economic assessments.
  • At least 3 to 5 years of experience in managing technical engineering projects.
  • Essential Soft Skills:
    • Innovative and pioneering mindset.
    • Ability to influence results in a non-supervisory capacity with various external partners.
    • Technical leadership and organizational capabilities to coordinate multidisciplinary collaborations.
    • Strong communication and presentation skills.
    • Proficiency in English.

PRIMARY ACTIVITIES

ACTIVITIES:
  • Identify and select the most promising technology developers through comprehensive scouting.
  • Establish clear project objectives, scope of work, and organizational structure with partners and internal stakeholders.
  • Manage the collaborative contractual framework with technology developers.
  • Collaborate with an engineering firm to conduct process design and technical cost evaluations alongside developers.
  • Conduct thorough scientific and technical assessments of selected technologies.
  • Deliver detailed technical analyses, conceptual plant designs, cost estimates, life cycle assessments, safety evaluations, and risk management strategies.
  • Foster a balanced management approach with partners to promote collaboration and innovation while ensuring project adherence to timelines and budgets.
  • Regularly engage with U.S. partners to cultivate constructive relationships based on mutual trust.
  • Provide scientific and technical support to partners and internal stakeholders.
  • Advocate for HSE initiatives and promote strong awareness of HSE matters among partners.
  • Ensure technical excellence in proposed solutions and maintain high standards in internal reporting.
  • Stay updated on relevant technological advancements and adjust project scope as necessary.
  • Encourage technical innovation both internally and externally when appropriate.

CCUS is a pivotal technology that TotalEnergies is advancing to achieve its net zero carbon objectives. The flagship ONE R&D CCUS Program plays a crucial role in this mission. In addition to capturing CO2 from industrial sources, large-scale removal of CO2 from the atmosphere is essential for mitigating climate change. Direct Air Capture represents one of the solutions to achieve negative emissions when integrated with geological storage, serving as a vital component towards net zero e-fuels. The current generation of DAC technologies remains costly and demands significant low-carbon energy. The role of the incumbent is to assess innovative technologies capable of maximizing carbon negativity at a reasonable cost, fostering a highly collaborative approach with selected startups.
