Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled Legal Secretary to join its Criminal Appeals Section. As a key member of the team, you will provide exceptional support to litigation attorneys, ensuring the smooth operation of the office.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support to 3-4 litigation attorneys, including typing legal documents, briefs, and correspondence from machine dictation and hard copy
  • Filing, answering telephones, responding to citizen inquiries, creating/maintaining legal databases, managing docket/correspondence control for attorneys, and record keeping
  • Maintain case management database and perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Proficient in MS Word, including the preparation of litigation documents, memoranda, and correspondence
  • Typing skill of at least 65-70 wpm
  • Detail-oriented and able to work proficiently in an intense, litigation-deadline environment
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team player in covering the work of others when the situation demands
  • Experience in Law Base case management software is desired but not required
