Position Summary

The Autism Support Specialist plays a crucial role in delivering direct, hands-on behavioral therapy to children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). This position involves the application of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Verbal Behavior Therapy (VBT) techniques during both structured teaching sessions and naturalistic learning settings. The Autism Support Specialist is responsible for providing personalized instruction, modeling, and support to facilitate the development of essential skills in clients. Furthermore, this role includes maintaining a high-quality, organized therapeutic environment to promote client progress, while collaborating with the clinical team to assess outcomes and modify interventions as necessary. Autism Matters Inc is dedicated to offering both entry-level and ongoing training opportunities to ensure our specialists remain at the forefront of evidence-based ABA practices. The ultimate aim is for the Autism Support Specialist to effectively implement ABA and VBT strategies that empower children with ASD to achieve significant developmental milestones.

Qualifications and Educational Background

  • Availability for a standard work schedule from 8 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday. Other scheduling requests will be considered on an individual basis.
  • EIDBI Level 1 or Level 2 provider status.

Level 1 Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in a graduate program in a mental health discipline or possess a master's degree in a relevant field.
  • A minimum of 2,000 hours of clinical experience and/or training.

Level 2 Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in behavioral or child development sciences or a related field, along with one of the following: 1,000 hours of clinical experience, completion of approved graduate coursework, or certification as a BCaBA or RBT.
  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program in behavioral or child development sciences or related fields, with a commitment to complete 1,000 hours of supervised experience.
  • A total of 4,000 hours of supervised clinical experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver active treatment and training to clients focusing on self-help skills, language development, behavior management, community living, safety, social skills, and both gross and fine motor skills.
  • Conduct individual and small group therapy sessions aimed at enhancing clients' mental and physical well-being (session lengths may extend up to 4 hours per client).
  • Monitor, analyze, and document clients' engagement, responses, and progress during therapy sessions using designated documentation tools.
  • Assist clients with daily routine tasks (e.g., toileting, grooming) as necessary.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the therapy facility by completing assigned cleaning duties.
  • Be prepared for physical activities including frequent standing, bending, lifting, and providing client assistance.
