Job Summary

The Associate Director for the University Counseling Center serves on the department's senior leadership team, assisting with planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of policies, strategic priorities, and financial management related to counseling services, clinical operations, risk management, education, and programming.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Directly supervises full-time professional staff, including hiring, training, assigning work, performance evaluation, recognition, and development.
  2. Oversees clinical social work practicum program, art therapy internship, and graduate assistantships, providing clinical supervision of graduate assistants/interns/trainees.
  3. Manages school program contracts and partnerships with local universities and colleges, completes placement and evaluation materials for clinical training programs.
  4. Organizes and completes onboarding processes for new hires and student interns/trainees, updates onboarding and training manual.
  5. Identifies and coordinates clinical training opportunities and professional development for counseling staff, including Mental Health First Aid.
  6. Assists with articulating the vision for the department, investigates new and emerging trends, and explores opportunities for growth within collegiate mental health services.
  7. Provides oversight and management of electronic health record systems, trains UCC staff and new hires on electronic health record and record keeping systems.
  8. Manages internal and external client record requests in conjunction with the Office of General Counsel.
  9. Provides outreach and education about UCC service offerings to staff, faculty, and student organizations.
  10. Assists in the oversight and tracking of critical incidents, including Care and Concern reports and crisis triage.
  11. Coordinates care needs with case manager and critical needs counselor, performs violence risk assessments.
  12. Provides psychotherapy, consultation, outreach, and prevention services as needed.
  13. Diagnoses students and develops and implements treatment plans consistent with clinical diagnosis using nationally and internationally recognized diagnostic systems.
  14. Maintains compliance with mandatory local, state, and federal reporting laws and professional and ethical standards and guidelines.
  15. Maintains a knowledge of federal, state, and local mental health system and well-being resources.
Requirements
  • Master's Degree in a mental health services discipline (e.g., clinical psychology, social work, mental health counseling, etc.).
  • Certification/Licensure: Fully licensed in the State of Missouri or eligibility for MO licensure, as documented by out-of-state licensure as a Clinical Psychologist (PhD/PsyD), Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).
  • Eight years related work experience.
  • Five years of full-time, post-graduate related clinical work experience.
  • Three years of administrative experience.
  • Experience managing professional and/or student staff.
  • Experience and aptitude with professional presentations (workshops, trainings) and speaking engagements.
  • Leadership experience with consistently progressive responsibilities in a collegiate mental health setting.
  • Leadership experience in business operations, including supervision, strategic planning, budgeting, procurement, and financial management.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and groups.
  • Experience and training in trauma-informed care and psychotherapy approaches to trauma.
