Position Overview

The Spirit Wings & Spirit Direct Pilot Pathway programs offer a streamlined route for aspiring aviators enrolled in select flight schools or university partnerships to transition directly to the role of First Officer with Spirit Airlines.

Throughout the program, cadets will benefit from:

  • Comprehensive mentorship and training from experienced Flight Operations personnel during their educational journey.
  • Access to a complete Spirit Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) with early training materials for the Airbus A320 series aircraft.
  • Provision of Foreflight & Jeppesen Pro subscriptions to enhance flight planning and navigation.
  • Participation in an annual "Spirit Day" event featuring presentations, training opportunities, and networking with Flight Operations leadership.
Eligibility Criteria

Flight School Requirements:

  • A minimum of 500 flight hours.
  • Possession of a Commercial Pilot Certificate.
  • A recommendation from faculty or chief instructor at the partner institution.
  • A valid FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
  • FCC Radio Telephone Operator Permit.
  • A valid passport with at least nine months of validity for international travel.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.

University Requirements:

  • Completion of the sophomore year in an accredited aviation degree program.
  • A recommendation from faculty or chief instructor at the partner institution.
  • A valid FAA First Class Medical Certificate or the ability to obtain one before ATP/CTP and Jet Transition courses.
  • FCC Radio Telephone Operator Permit.
  • A valid passport with at least nine months of validity for international travel.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.

Selected candidates must fulfill all program prerequisites and comply with FAA standards for an Unrestricted ATP or Restricted ATP (for university participants) and undergo a final program evaluation. All cadets are required to attend ATP/CTP and a Spirit-specific A320 Jet Transition course prior to being assigned a new hire class date. Once a class date is available, cadets will undergo pre-employment assessments and background checks before being assigned to a new hire pilot class.

First Officer Responsibilities

  • Ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all Spirit guests.
  • Assist the captain in operating the aircraft in compliance with all Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and company protocols.
  • Exhibit a commitment to customer service and a fresh perspective in the airline sector.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, with responsibilities subject to change based on operational needs.
