Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Protection and Control Engineer with a minimum of 5 years of expertise in the detailed design of protection and control systems, cost estimation, and preparation of bid documents for various power systems including commercial, industrial, generation, renewables, and utility sectors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and modify one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, control schematics, wiring diagrams, relay panel configurations, and cable lists for substations, along with relay settings and configuration files.
  • Design auxiliary AC and DC power systems.
  • Create and revise technical specifications for major equipment such as power transformers, circuit breakers, control houses, and other high-voltage substation materials.
  • Collaborate with SCADA engineers, substation physical engineers, and control design teams to ensure comprehensive integration of protection, control, and monitoring systems.
  • Conduct basic calculations including voltage drop, CT burden and saturation, lighting, and short circuit analysis with minimal oversight.
  • Implement field mark-ups of project as-built drawings independently.
  • Assist project managers in developing project scopes and conceptual designs.
  • Facilitate communication and coordination of project activities with project managers, clients, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior staff members.
  • Ensure personal accountability for the quality and precision of work produced.
  • Draft panel construction specifications, including panel and interconnect wiring as well as panel layouts and elevations.
  • Evaluate and review control features and communication aspects of protective relays, RTUs, LTC Controllers, and other related equipment, ensuring relay setting coordination.
  • Support testing and commissioning activities related to system startups and functional checks as required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in the design of protection and control systems, cost estimation, and bid document preparation for medium voltage electrical power projects.
  • Preferred: Professional Engineer (PE) license from a US State (NC and NY).
  • Proven track record in designing Protection and Control Systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of IEEE, NERC, NEC, NESC, NEMA, and ANSI standards relevant to substation design.
  • Experience with telecommunications, protective relaying, and automation (SCADA) systems is essential.
  • Familiarity with low voltage coordination and arc flash studies is advantageous.
  • Experience with equipment from Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, General Electric, and Basler is preferred.
  • Willingness to travel periodically for project site visits.
  • Desired software proficiency in ASPEN or similar, Doble, AutoCAD, SKM, and ETAP.
Compensation
The salary range for this position is $90,000 - $117,000 per year. The specific salary offered will depend on various factors including the candidate's relevant experience, education, and work location.
