Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Commissioning Engineer to join our team in the Northeast Region of the United States. As a Lead Commissioning Engineer, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and performing commissioning activities for various utility substation protection, control, and power circuits.

Responsibilities
  • Commissioning Activities: Plan, coordinate, and perform all commissioning activities, including pre-commissioning, construction, testing, and project close-out, in accordance with TRC's and client requirements, budgets, and schedules.
  • Wiring Diagrams and Schematics: Review and understand construction and manufacturer's drawings and specifications, as well as schematic diagrams.
  • Troubleshooting and Problem Analysis: Perform trouble-shooting and problem analysis associated with protection and control systems and utility substation equipment, including application errors and omissions, drawing errors and omissions, wiring errors and omissions, settings errors and omissions, equipment malfunctions, questionable apparatus test results, and battery ground faults.
  • Project Meetings: Participate in project meetings, including kickoff meetings, planning meetings, progress meetings, and lessons learned meetings.
  • Reporting and Documentation: Prepare detailed daily, weekly, and project completion reports and documentation, including project progress, issues or problems, recommendations, test results, and analyses.
  • Testing and Commissioning Plans: Assist in developing project-specific testing and commissioning plans, energization plans, or any other assigned project-specific documentation.
  • Risk Assessment: Identify risks and associated mitigation techniques on utility systems and equipment, and develop a site risk assessment to document all high-risk construction and commissioning activities.
  • Test Results and Analyses: Ensure all applicable tests and/or commissioning activities are performed on every piece of equipment or system in accordance with planning and project documents, and make certain all test results are acceptable and permanently recorded, filed, and distributed properly.
Qualifications
  • Education and Experience: A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Electrical or Power Systems preferred) from an accredited school or university, and 10+ years of related experience with testing and commissioning services (Electric Utility experience is preferred, but will train T-C Engineers with experience in commissioning complex commercial-industrial equipment, including protective relays or other Power Systems Field Engineers with relay knowledge).
  • Knowledge and Skills: Demonstrated ability to read and understand construction and manufacturer's drawings and specifications, as well as schematic diagrams; strong knowledge of electrical protection systems, including relay communication; basic understanding of AC and DC schematics, wiring, and drawings, one-line and three-line interconnection diagrams; prior professional experience in medium and high-voltage substation and power plant equipment; and solid testing and commissioning knowledge of substation utility protection and control circuits.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Test experience using Doble Protection Suite and/or ProTest, SEL AcSELerator, Enoserv RTS; Goose Messaging experience; and current US work eligibility.
