Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Protection and Control Systems Design Engineer to join our team at LaBella Associates. As a key member of our electrical engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and implementing protection and control systems for commercial, industrial, and utility power systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop protection and control systems for substations, including one-lines, three-lines, control schematics, wiring diagrams, and relay panel arrangements.
  • Develop technical specifications for major equipment, including power transformers, power circuit breakers, and control house.
  • Coordinate with SCADA engineers, substation physical engineers, and control design staff to ensure system integration of protection, control, and monitoring systems.
  • Perform basic calculations, such as voltage drop, CT burden and saturation, lighting, and short circuit.
  • Apply field mark-ups of project as-built drawings.
  • Assist project managers in developing scope of work and conceptual design for projects.
  • Communicate and coordinate project activities with project managers, clients, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to less experienced staff members.
  • Take personal responsibility for the quality and accuracy of one's work.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
  • 5 or more years of experience in protection and control system design, cost estimating, and bid document preparation for medium voltage electrical power projects.
  • PE license from a US State (NC and NY) is preferred.
  • Successful track record designing Protection and Control Systems.
  • Knowledge of Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), NERC, NEC, NESC, NEMA, and ANSI standards used in designing substation is critical.
  • Experience with telecommunications, protective relaying, and automation (SCADA) is required.
  • Desired knowledge in low voltage coordination and arc flash studies.
  • Familiarity with Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, General Electric, and Basler equipment.
  • Periodic travel, ability to visit project sites.
