Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Employee and Labor Relations Manager to join our Human Resources team at Illinois Action for Children. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing expert guidance and support to management and employees on all aspects of employee and labor relations, including performance improvement, employee/management mediation, disciplinary actions, and employee separations.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Employee Relations: Provide counseling and guidance to employees and management on a range of issues, including work relationships, communication problems, personal issues, employee morale, and work-related concerns. Oversee employee rewards and recognition programs and educate management on their use.
  2. Labor Relations: Assist the Director of Human Resources and legal counsel in administering and interpreting collective bargaining agreements, conducting incident investigations, evaluating evidence, and working with legal counsel as needed. Participate in negotiations and grievance settlements with the Collective Bargaining Unit.
  3. Performance Management: Provide training and guidance to employees and management on performance management, performance improvement plans, and employment law and internal policies. Identify training needs for management staff and assist in developing new employee engagement programs, policies, and procedures.
  4. Communications: Assist the HR Director with communicating and interpreting Human Resource policies, procedures, and programs. Participate in HR trainings and meetings, including full management meetings and HR-related events.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor's degree and 5-7 years of experience in human resources, employee relations, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience and experience interpreting and administering collective bargaining agreements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, decision-making and problem-solving skills, and excellent organizational and public speaking skills.
