Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range for this position reflects a nationwide market range and encompasses a wide spectrum of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary will be influenced by various factors, including the complexity and scope of the role, as well as the candidate's skills, education, training, credentials, and experience. Additionally, employees are eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards as part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program.

What Is the Opportunity?

The Commercial Accounts division provides a diverse range of guaranteed-cost products tailored for mid-sized enterprises. Our total account solutions encompass General Liability, Property, Automobile, Workers' Compensation, and Lead Umbrella. The Account Executive Officer (AEO) for Commercial Accounts collaborates with agents and brokers to deliver property, general liability, commercial auto, and/or workers' compensation coverage for both new and renewal business, aligned with customer requirements. This role is recognized as a technical expert. As an AEO, you will be decisive, detail-oriented, and adept at fostering relationships both internally and externally to achieve results. Your capability to independently evaluate complex risks and market our products in challenging environments will significantly contribute to the profitability and success of Travelers. Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the profitability, growth, and retention of a designated portfolio of business.
  • Underwrite and effectively negotiate intricate customer accounts to mitigate risk and enhance profitability.
  • Build and sustain relationships with internal stakeholders within the business unit and across the organization to formulate sales strategies and identify cross-selling opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external partners by regularly engaging with agents and brokers to promote and sell Travelers products, aiming to write and retain accounts that align with our risk appetite. Travel for such meetings is required.
  • Identify and seize new business opportunities utilizing consultative marketing and sales techniques.
  • Independently create and implement agency sales strategies while frequently collaborating with your Managing Director (MD) to develop regional or group sales plans.
  • May assist in mentoring and training less experienced Account Executives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Ideal Candidate Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Six to eight years of relevant underwriting experience, particularly in commercial lines.
  • In-depth knowledge of commercial lines products, the regulatory landscape, and the local insurance market.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to proactively identify underwriting, marketing, or financial challenges and assess available information to make timely decisions in line with our risk appetite.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to negotiate effectively in challenging situations with agents and brokers.
  • CPCU designation is preferred.
Essential Requirements
  • A minimum of four years of underwriting experience.
