Job Overview

POSITION TITLE: Code Enforcement Officer

SALARY: Range 13 ($20.49/hr to $30.80/hr) - Negotiable based on qualifications and experience.

DEPARTMENT: Community Development

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Part-Time (Approximately 20 hours per week with flexible scheduling available upon approval)

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES


• Engage with property owners to ensure adherence to maintenance standards as per municipal regulations.

• This role operates under the direct oversight of the Community Development Director.


KEY FUNCTIONS


• Collaborate proactively with property owners to uphold compliance with city nuisance and zoning regulations.

• Address and assess code violation reports from the public and city departments.

• Conduct field inspections to investigate complaints and issue violation notifications.

• Carry out follow-up inspections to ensure compliance after notifications are issued.

• Work alongside the Community Development Director, City Attorney, and local law enforcement on non-compliance cases.

• Research and compile information to inform the public about city code requirements.

• Deliver exceptional customer service while providing accurate information regarding city codes and services.

• Perform additional related duties as necessary.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES


Knowledge:

• Familiarity with enforcement techniques related to municipal codes and regulations;

• Proficient in record keeping and report generation.


Skills:

• Strong customer service capabilities;

• Ability to foster effective communication and relationships;

• Competence in managing multiple projects simultaneously;

• Capacity to articulate complex regulations in a clear and understandable manner.


Minimum Qualifications:


• Applicants must be at least 18 years of age;

• A standard high school diploma or equivalent is required, or a combination of education and experience;

• Previous experience in code enforcement or community policing is preferred but not mandatory.


LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

Must possess a valid State of Utah Driver's License.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

The role is primarily office-based with appropriate climate control. The position involves various physical activities, including walking, standing, and lifting, but does not typically require strenuous exertion. Effective communication skills are essential, along with the ability to manage details and problem-solve creatively. Regular local travel is expected as part of job duties.
