About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Structural Designer to join our team at Builders FirstSource. As a key member of our engineering department, you will be responsible for coordinating the design and completion of layouts of residential roof and floor systems for pricing and manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Layout: Independently perform simple and complex analyses while designing residential roof and floor systems and producing layouts.
  • Customer Interaction: Interact daily with customers while evaluating customer's needs and the technical requirements for each job. Reviews layouts with customers, analyzes relevant information, and uses independent judgment to provide expert advice and recommendations.
  • Design Development: Develops and completes design details from customer concept drawings.
  • Materials Selection: Uses independent judgment and discretion in selecting design materials to be used and produce materials list per customer needs and technical requirements for each job.
  • Construction Management: Oversees all construction design documents, construction management, and construction contracts. Determines special notes to append to contracts.
  • Job Coordination: Independently presents, coordinates, sells and follows-up on all new jobs.
  • Problem-Solving: Proactively discusses changes and corrections with engineers, architects and contractors prior to and during construction base.
  • Code Compliance: Ensures conformance to all relevant building requirements and municipality building codes, if applicable.
  • Process Improvement: Independently develops solutions to challenges presented by customers within budget, schedule and project constraints.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree. Applicable work experience may be substituted for education requirement.
  • Experience: 4+ years drafting experience in a construction or building materials-related industry.
Competencies
  • Technical Writing: Proficient technical writing skills.
  • Communication: Excellent communication skills.
  • Blueprint Reading: Reading and interpreting blueprints in an architectural related industry.
  • Technical Skills: Tech-savvy with Microsoft Office products, AUTO CAD, and other design programs that facilitate learning in-house program with ease. MITEK software knowledge a plus.
