Job Overview

POSITION TITLE: Code Enforcement Officer

SALARY: Range 13 ($20.49/hr to $30.80/hr) - Negotiable based on qualifications and experience.

DEPARTMENT: Community Development

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Part-Time (Approximately 20 hours per week with flexible scheduling options available upon approval)

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES


• Engage with residential and commercial property owners to ensure adherence to property maintenance standards as per municipal regulations.

• This role operates under the direct supervision of the Community Development Director.


KEY FUNCTIONS


• Actively collaborate with property owners to uphold compliance with local nuisance and zoning regulations, as well as business licensing requirements.

• Address and assess code violation complaints received from the public and city departments.

• Conduct field inspections to investigate complaints and issue violation notices.

• Perform follow-up inspections to ensure compliance after notices are issued.

• Collaborate with the Community Development Director, City Attorney, and local law enforcement on non-compliance cases.

• Research and compile information to inform the public about municipal code requirements.

• Deliver exceptional customer service, providing the public with relevant information regarding city codes and services.

• Undertake additional related responsibilities as necessary.


QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND KNOWLEDGE


Knowledge:

• Familiarity with enforcement methods related to municipal codes and regulations;

• Proficient in record keeping and report writing.


Abilities:

• Provide outstanding customer service;

• Build and maintain effective communication and working relationships;

• Organize and manage multiple projects simultaneously;

• Simplify complex regulations and ordinances for better public understanding.


Skills:

• Competence in interpreting codes and ordinances;

• Basic proficiency in word processing for record keeping and report generation;

• Ability to operate a computer and digital devices for field inspections;

• Skillful in managing challenging interactions with individuals in a calm and professional manner.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:


• Applicants must be at least 18 years of age;

• A standard high school diploma or equivalent is required, or a combination of education and experience;

• Previous experience in code enforcement or community policing is preferred but not mandatory.


CERTIFICATIONS:

Must possess a valid State of Utah Driver's License.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The position typically operates in an office environment with appropriate climate controls. Duties involve various physical activities, including walking, standing, and lifting, without significant muscular strain. Effective performance requires good communication skills, memory for details, and problem-solving abilities. Frequent local travel is necessary as part of job responsibilities.
