Position Overview

The Renewable Gas division operates within the Corporate Sustainability sector of Southern Company Gas and plays a pivotal role in guiding the organization’s renewable gas initiatives. This role is integral to the advancement of renewable gas programs, encompassing support for regulatory submissions, program architecture, execution, and oversight, in addition to facilitating voluntary green gas initiatives at relevant local distribution entities. The ideal candidate will significantly contribute to the company’s mission of educating, developing, executing, and managing renewable gas initiatives and projects, while also ensuring compliance with regulatory standards across the organization’s operational areas.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate across departments to coordinate and manage voluntary green gas initiatives at relevant local distribution companies.
  • Oversee external communications with stakeholders and customers interested in voluntary programs.
  • Engage with project stakeholders (e.g., Finance, Rates, Technology Division) to manage and administer voluntary initiatives.
  • Assist in regulatory submissions by leading efforts to address internal and external data inquiries, including coordinating responses from stakeholders regarding renewable gas regulations.
  • Analyze and summarize complex datasets to support the formulation of renewable gas initiatives or projects.
  • Generate regular and on-demand reports to monitor program and project progress and updates.
  • Create presentations, reports, charts, etc., to effectively convey the organization’s strategy and implementation efforts.
  • Facilitate interdepartmental groups and committees focused on the execution of new processes and protocols for voluntary customer initiatives.
  • Conduct research and provide insights on market trends and developments within the renewable gas sector.
  • Monitor environmental and economic impacts associated with renewable gas initiatives.
  • Assist in the coordination of new programming and marketing strategies for the Energy Efficiency initiative in the Southern Operations region.
  • Track actual and projected expenditures for the Energy Efficiency initiative in the Southern Operations region and offer recommendations on the timing and scope of marketing expenditures based on historical program engagement and objectives.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time, including potential out-of-state travel.
Qualifications:
  • A four-year degree is strongly preferred.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or Finance is preferred.
  • Prior experience in project management and/or engineering is advantageous.
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience is required.
  • Experience in the gas utility sector is preferred.
  • Familiarity with standards, methodologies, protocols, and calculations for greenhouse gas accounting is a plus.
Skills and Competencies:
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential.
  • Strong organizational, strategic, and analytical thinking abilities are required.
  • Experience in business plan development, program cost analysis, and economic evaluation, as well as contractor/consultant management, is preferred.
  • Demonstrated technical proficiency with the ability to apply that knowledge to natural gas operations and renewable gas initiatives.
  • A comprehensive understanding of the sustainability landscape, ESG metrics, and trends in the renewable gas industry is necessary.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adhere to strict deadlines.
  • Effective project management skills are essential.
